NOAH AND MAYA SCHOLNICK

Maya Scholnick is a first grade student at Horace Mann School. She is 6 years old and already plays rated chess tournaments! A very intelligent kid who LOVES chess! Maya began her tournament season at P.S. 6 last Sunday and scored 2 out of 4 in the K-2 rated section. If she continues with chess, there is no telling how far she will go!

Noah Schonick, Maya's older brother, is in 3rd Grade. He has played many rated tournaments already, beginning in December 2004. Noah has taken a big liking for the French Defense; he says this is because his mother is from France! What can take Noah very far in the game is his fantastic stamina and ability to maintain his concentration over the course of a long game

Both are preparing to play in the National Scholastic K-12 Grade Championships in Orlando, Florida (Disneyworld!) in December. They are involved in other activities, including music and sports (especially soccer!). They are further proof that balancing chess with other activities is the way to go.
