Erica is a fifth grade student who attends Special Music School near Lincoln center in Manhattan. Always friendly and in a cheerful mood, she has been a part of the after school chess program at Special Music School for the past four years. This year, her kindergarten brother Howard also joined the chess class! We’re sure she’s helping him learn the game.
Last year, Erica got her first chess clock! She was so excited and really enjoys playing the game. In the after school class, she is part of the advanced group that always has a good time, talking to their teachers about all kinds of things…
Like all kids at Special Music School, Erica studies music as well as chess. She pays attention to the chess lessons and asks good, thought-provoking questions. Her chess-playing ability has grown by leaps and bounds since she started taking chess class. Erica is an example of a student who does not have to play in chess tournaments to have an enduring love of the game.
