OUR STUDENT: EVAN GOLDSTEIN

Evan is a third-grade student at P.S. 116. He has been taking chess since kindergarten in school, and has been taking afterschool chess for three years now. This year, he has been promoted to the Advanced Class!

A fun-loving kid who always has a big smile on his face, Evan is sometimes too excitable. But at some point last year he really decided to try and get good at chess, and he began to work very hard on his game. He was the hardest-working student in chess camp, and indeed one of the students who studies most in his class.

Last year, he competed in the P.S. 116 tournaments, doing very well in the non-rated sections to get his legs under him in competitive chess. He also participated in The Right Move tournament with other students from his afterschool class. On Sunday, October 29 at the first P.S. 116 tournament of the 2006-2007 season, he will make his debut in rated chess, playing in the Primary section. We wish him much luck, as Evan has become totally engrossed in chess, and has an infectuous enthusiasm for the game!
