OUR STUDENT: TAIKI CHUNG
Taiki is a first-grade student at P.S. 116. He began playing chess last year as a Kindergarten student and showed a lot of potential both in the curriculum chess classes and in his Thursday Afterschool class. He began the year in the Kindergarten class, and later made it to the intermediate class. I can tell you that he was one of the best students in the intermediate class the day he joined it! He began competing in the P.S. 116 tournaments last year, and by the end of the year was finishing at the top of the Novice 2 section.
This year, Taiki made his debut in rated chess, finishing with 2/4 in the K-2 section at P.S. 6. Then, two weeks later he played in the Primary Section at P.S. 116, where he carried his school to the Team Prize by scoring 3.5 out of 4! He won a crucial last round game to secure the prize. Individually, he finished in clear 3rd Place. His rating is now 695!
We look forward to Taiki playing in tournaments regularly: local events, City and State Championships, and Nationals!
