Izzy Hanson-Johnston is a third grade student in P.S. 116 and has been studying chess since she was in kindergarten. She began playing in rated tournaments at the end of her first grade year in May 2005. In her afterschool chess classes she is a pleasure to teach—attentive, asking good questions, solving puzzles, and helping other students when she can.
In January 2006, she was part of the P.S. 116 team that finished in 2nd Place in the New York City Scholastics (Primary Novice section). The team was so excited!
Izzy continues to work hard and competes in tournaments. We expect to see her chess ability continue to grow!
