The NYChessKids staff felt that we should expand our efforts to try and attract students rated over 1500 and bring them back into local scholastic chess tournaments. After scratching our collective heads for months, we think we have a solution:
Our tournaments now feature a new Championship Section, open to students rated 1500 and above. Instead of trophies, the Top 10 prizewinners can choose among prizes like a GAP gift card, a Chronos chess clock, a DVD Player, a SONY PSP, or an iPod Video!
Free entry will be offered to students rated 2000 and above.
The Open Section, open to students rated 1100-1499, will award additional prizes to its Top 10 prizewinners as well.
The tournament will be held on Sunday, October 29 at P.S. 116, 210 East 33rd St. (bet. 2nd and 3rd Ave), New York, NY 10016.
