On Thursday we studied back rank. This combination is one of the most important lessons in chess. We anylazied game between Gara Ticia against Konetzke Raphael.
White started game with 1.e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 Game began with famous sicilian defense.5.Nc3 g6 6.Nxc6 bxc6 7.e5 Ng8Black got himself into bad position. If you have to move your pieces backwards in the beginning of the game the end is not gonna be very good. 8.Bc4 Bg7 9.Qf3 f6 10. Bf4 Bb7 11.0-0-0 Qa5 12. e6 Nice move. Pawn on e6 is making a lot of troubles for black king. d5 13. Nxd5 black didn't expect this sacrifice. Black king is in the center of the board. that is why white has right to give up his knight and attack. cxd5 14. Bxd5 Bxd5 15. Rxd5 Qa2 16.Ra5 What a great move. Black queen has to accept the challenge.
Qa5 17. Qc6 small trick and black king is trapped on the last rank. Kf8 18.Qa8 Qd8 19. Qd8 checkmate.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
What did we learn from this game:
1. Moving the pieces in the beginning of the game is not recommended.
2.You can sacrifice your stronger pieces if you think opponent's king might be in trouble.
3.white pawn on sixth rank helped us to trap king on last rank.
Good luck with your homework.
