Steven Beldner is a third-grade student from Trevor Day School. Very enthusiastic about the game, serious about his work, and with impeccable behavior, Steven has shown big progress in the past year, when he began playing in chess tournaments as a second-grader.
He attends many NYChessKids camps, and chess classes in Trevor Day School. A quiet young man, Steven "goes about his business the right way," as they say in sports. A lot of people forget that a big part of becoming a better chess player is temperament: do the player have the capacity for work? Can they focus? With Steven, the answer is "yes" to both questions!
This year, Steven won the Novice section at Hunter in October with a 4-0 score. He has posted solid performances at Columbia Grammar, P.S. 6, and P.S. 116. He will play in the National Scholastic K-12 Grade Championships in Orlando, Florida in early December.
