NYChessKids November 13th Workshop

On Monday, November 13th, NYChessKids held a workshop in the afternoon for students who only had a half-day of school.

While their parents got glowing reports from their classroom teachers, students from PS116, PS130, PS290, and Horace Mann met at the Episcopal Church for chess lessons from 12-5.
The day was filled with endgame instruction, puzzles, and games. We also took a break from chess to get lunch at McDonald's.

One of the highlights of the day was when Justin Karp played the other students in a simul. Justin has been coming to the NYChessKids camps for many years. He is one of the strongest players for his age in the country; he is currently rated 1880 and he is only in the sixth grade! This past summer he represented the United States at a tournament in Ecuador and he is currently preparing to fight for another national championship next month in Orlando.

The other students really benefited from his chess knowledge at camp. After the simul, which lasted about forty minutes, Justin went over the games with each student-- which also helped him develop his chess teaching skills!

We wish all of our students luck at the Nationals next month and hope to see everyone at the next NYChessKids camp (December 18th-21st and December 26th-29th; go to nychesskids.com to sign up today)!
